Must have mods

On this page are listed the must have mods you should have as a minimum when flying BOS il2 or DCS.

PILOT NOTES (IL2):

Pilot notes substitute the cockpit photo with the vital information required to fly and manage your aircraft. There are cockpit notes available for almost every aircraft. The base notes were created by someone else, with Kin creating notes for the latest aircraft. Download the files, unzip, and then copy them into \IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\graphics\Planes overwriting the existing photos (yes, the photos will be lost!). If you reinstall the game, or do a Steam local file integrity check, you will lose the pilot notes and have to copy them back in. PILOT NOTES CURRENTLY BEING UPDATED AND WILL BE PUBLISHED SOON.

If the notes are not appearing, make sure that you have enabled cockpit photos as shown in this video: https://youtu.be/D0IqltUqR2Q

Necksaver for VR (IL2 and DCS)

This is a vital mod for VR pilots, which allows you to be able to look behind you, similar to the view TrackIR users have.  The following link takes you to both the SteamVR and the OpenXR versions: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/67985-simple-tool-to-check-your-six/

Note: Your antivirus software might alert you, but so far there has been no virus when downloading this utility from this website.

Entering New Waypoints (DCS)

This is a quick and easy way to add waypoints to your aircraft (not all aircraft are supported yet) - it uses Google Tesseract  - which is an OCR type reader for the screen - and a DCS mod. The way it works is you bring up your F10 Map, put the cursor over the target, press the save key which then inputs the coordinates into your aircraft, creating a new waypoint.
